Take Beirut With You Poster
A poster depicting Beirut by Artist Maya Fidawi as she explains the thought process behind this piece:
I did this poster with so much love and lots of mixed emotions. When I first started illustrating it, it was slightly a few weeks before war blasted in September 2024.
Then I started coloring it while war was at its peak.
I was trying to detach myself from reality. Spending too many hours a day just focused on this drawing was my only escape.
I felt so sad and terrified. I thought Beirut was going to be demolished and felt the urge to preserve my beautiful city the way I see it; in a poster, on my iPad, it didn't matter I just wanted to live in those streets forever.
Here is the result of my fear of losing Beirut.
It ended up being the rebirth of a hopeful and bright future for my beloved country that suffered for a whole 50 years. Beirut and all of Lebanon will witness a new beginning, and it will again be the precious gem of the Middle East.
The composition is a mixture of a collective visual memory of Beirut. You'd see parts of the corniche, AUB, Hamra Street, Sanayeh, Badaro, Achrafiyeh, Mazeraa… and some of the famous habits and the beautiful chaos of my city.
